Ryan Deiss and Banner Ads
November 3rd, 2006
Big Seminar Report
Here is something that completely blew me away - Ryan Deiss (one of the speakers at the Big Seminar) spoke about niche marketing and how to start a profitable Internet business based on specific markets.
However, the really interesting thing that I learned had nothing to do with finding a profitable market. What really caught my attention was when he spoke about traffic generation.
He listed off a few ways to get traffic to your website, namely:
-affiliates (your own affiliate program)
-Google Adwords
-banner ads
-ezine advertising
-search engine optimization
-article marketing
He then asked the audience: “Which of these methods do you think works best for me?”
I thought it would be his affiliates, others thought it was Google Adwords.
Can you guess which one it was?
Give up? Ok, I’ll tell you. It was banner ads!
When Ryan Deiss said this the audience was shocked! “Aren’t banner ads dead?” is what everybody was thinking and mumbling to their neighbors.
Ryan then went on to say that banner ads had never died, they were just never used properly by most marketers.
This completely threw me for a loop (and I get a lot of traffic to my websites every day WITHOUT using banner ads).
So, today at 11am I am having a meeting with my intern where I am going to train him on the steps that Ryan laid out to driving massive traffic through banner ads. I will have him test out the ideas and then I will report on my results.
If all goes well I will probably be adding a video to Your Traffic Videos describing the process.
What is that process?
Tune in tomorrow and I’ll let you know!

P.S. Please post your comments on what you think about this “new” idea.

Hey Christopher,
What I meant is the idea of using banner ads.

It’s funny, because I used banner ads - aaaages ago!
They worked really well, and then dropped, dropped, dropped off the face of the web.
It all sounds dangerously new and exciting all over again!
Cool!
I’ll be checking back tomorrow
Love stuff that hardly anyone else is using!
Banner Ads!
That is sooooo 1990! LOL

Hey Mathew,
Are these banners ads “stealth” banners?
These are the banners that don’t look like ads but instead look more like they’re part of the web page itself. As you know when you place Google Ads on your website they get more clickthoughs when they look like they’re part of your website.
Can you reveal if Ryan uses banner ads like this?
I just recently found this interesting ebook online by Scott Covert who’s generated millions of Dollars in sales through banner advertising.
It’s well worth checking out.
He uses “stealth” banner ads:

I hope this helps.
