How to find great products to promote…

December 15th, 2006

It’s like finding water in a desert.

Whenever I find a good product that has an affiliate program that converts well into sales I am extremely overjoyed.

The difficulty with affiliate marketing is not in finding products to promote, but in finding great products to promote.

There are four main components to a great product:

1. It is useful to your readers.
2. It has a good converting sales letter.
3. It has a low refund rate.
4. The customer service is exceptional.

So how do you find these great products that you can integrate into your websites and auto-responders to make money over and over again, and keep your readers happy?

It is not enough to simply send out emails to your entire list and see what happens. You are limited in the number of tests you can do simply because you don’t want to email your list 5 times in one day to see what works best.

Although sending emails is free, it should still be considered precious real estate.

Here is something else that I suggest doing that will really help you to bolster your affiliate commissions:

Systematically test several products by split testing to your list.

It works like this:

1. Randomly sub-divide your list into segments of at least 300 subscribers.
2. Send different product promotions to each segment.
3. See which product performs the best.
4. Send out a different email promotion for that same product to each segment.
5. Take the promotion that worked best and send it out to your entire list.

Sound like a lot of work? Compare it to the “normal” method:

1. Send out a promotion to your list.
2. Pray that it does well.

That simply is not the way to build a long-lasting business.

Using this method I have been able to earn between $2 to $3 minimum per subscriber per month.

Furthermore, you will discover the types of products that your readers like most. This is key to being able to quickly tell if you want to even bother promoting a product.

You will become an expert on what your list wants, and you will make more money because of it (and your readers will love you because you finally understand what they are looking for).

Enjoy!

    Hi:

I learnt something there Matthew, test, test, and test all new products. Now, being nosy how often do you show the acceptable product to the same list?

Or do you leave out the buyers? And, over what sort of time scale?

    Hi Mattew,

When you send your email to your list. What is the ratio between sending products, info and news.
